Last night I had a dream that Jessica and I were walking down MLK, chatting about my history class. We somehow got on the topic of Texas seceding from the United States and I said, “it’d be pretty amazing but I guess it wouldn’t be that bad.” She suddenly got angry and said, “Catherine, no state can ever secede from the US.” and I got equally angry and was like, “Yes, they can. It’s their constitutional right! They just have to get the entire country to agree!” She brought up the fact that it’d never happen because there would always be at least one person who wouldn’t vote for it. Then I said my favorite line in the dream, “JESSICA, JUST BECAUSE ONE JACKASS WOULDN’T VOTE FOR IT DOESN’T MEAN IT’S NOT IN THE CONSTITUTION.” Then we just argued back and forth for a long time.
It was really stressful, and eventually she got hit by a car and broke her shoulder, and we rushed her to the hospital where this old man cut us in line for a stomach ache.
The point is, does anybody know what the real answer is? Are states able to leave and become their own countries? I know Vermont has a secession movement going and 13% of people from Vermont are in favor. Wouldn’t that be fun? You could go on vacation to the Republic of Vermont. Is there a place in the constitution I should be reading? Hmm.. The real question is, why on earth do I care? I should study less.
